Compositionally this is my favorite image from the endeavor, simply due to its disorienting nature. There are rules to follow when you make an image, and there are also rules to break and I believe this falls into the latter.

It's not so confusing that it's unreadable or so noisy that you can't make sense of it, yet there's something about the lines and their warped nature that reminds of something Dali might have seen. A bit of motion blur in the train leaving the station and the deep shadows as the sun dips to the west depict the graphic "Sin City" nature I search for in many of my images.

I'll return to this spot, at this time of day again, but I know competing with this image will be a difficult task.

Listening to a street photographer as they were interviewed the other day, they described the mystery of street photography images, and how vlogging while photographing can eliminate the beautiful addition of imagination. Let me explain further using this image as a reference.

When you first see this image, and spend time with it, you create a story. It is your story. A narrative to all the elements in the photograph. The time of day. The location. The subjects, or lack of. Everything. With some images, you are given direction by the photographer in the form of a caption, or if the work is a collection of photos with a certain focus. But this is all the explanation you are given and the rest you create.

With the addition of video, this is eliminated. The entire story is explained and the moments behind the decisive one destroy the additional magic you bring as the viewer.

For that reason, I'll leave you without an explanation and allow you to create your own story. I hope to hear it someday.

This man was walking around the station with a frisbee, inviting the unhoused to play a game of catch. If they caught the frisbee, he would give them a cigarette. To be honest, I'm not sure if there was something less genuine to the interaction, but that was all the information I could ascertain, so I'll take it at face value.

The man saw me making photos and interacting with individuals and called over to get my attention.

"Catch it and I'll give you a cigarette!"

"I catch it you give the cigarette to someone else!" I responded.

He threw the frisbee to me with perfect accuracy, making it easy to catch. As he threw it, I pointed my camera, prayed the settings would be accurate, and fired off some frames. We played catch for a few minutes, laughing about our accuracy or lack thereof.

We finished our exchange and I turned my back to walk away, when I saw him engage the police. Now, the situation at Union Station has been...tense (google it), so when I saw this happening I could feel myself respond physically, if only slightly.

To my utter amusement, they started to play catch, following in the same back and forth I had engaged with the man moments earlier. I smiled as I made some images, and watched as they interacted without fear or anger or judgment. A small moment of peace in an otherwise restless environment.

I chose this image for the humor it provides. A group of people, all frozen as they watched this UFO glide through the air, a look of amazement in their eyes, not dissimilar to my own as I watched the police play frisbee at Union Station.
